Prepare for potentially freezing weather and remember the 4Ps: Protect People, Pets, Pipes and Plants!
PROTECT PEOPLE
Avoid going outside if it is not necessary. If you do, dress warmly, in layers, to prevent hypothermia.
Avoid leaving space heaters unattended. If you use a space heater, make sure to keep it away from anything that may be flammable.
PROTECT PETS
Pets are vulnerable to cold temperatures. Provide shelter and warm bedding for pets or bring them indoors. If you cannot bring them inside, make sure they have a warm shelter.
PROTECT PLANTS
Cover plants, preferably before sunset, or bring them inside.
PROTECT PIPES
Cover and insulate exterior pipes and faucets to keep them from freezing and bursting. You can also cover your pipes with towels, duct tape or another adhesive strip.
We will be entering a prolonged period of cold weather starting this weekend into the middle of next week. Cold temperatures can be just as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than winter precipitation.
