Road conditions will become hazardous Sunday night into Monday due to winter conditions. Wherever you are Sunday night, you should be prepared to stay there through at least Tuesday.
TxDOT and Galveston County crews are preparing to treat the FM2094 bridge and Clear Lake Road bridge today. We urge residents to stay off the roadways if possible. If you must be on the roadways, please allow extra time for travel, and allow adequate space in between you and other vehicles on the road. For updates on road conditions, please visit http://traffic.houstontranstar.org/ or www.drivetexas.org
The City of Clear Lake Shores and the Clear Lake Shores Police Department will continue to monitor road conditions over the weekend and into next week.
Remember the 4Ps: Protect people, pets, plants, and pipes.
PROTECT PEOPLE
Avoid going outside if it is not necessary. If you do, dress warmly, in layers, to prevent hypothermia.
Avoid leaving space heaters unattended. If you use a space heater, make sure to keep it away from anything that may be flammable.
PROTECT PETS
Pets are vulnerable to cold temperatures. Provide shelter and warm bedding for pets or bring them indoors. If you cannot bring them inside, make sure they have a warm shelter.
PROTECT PLANTS
Cover plants, preferably before sunset, or bring them inside.
PROTECT PIPES
Burst pipes are one of the most common causes of property damage during frigid weather. Cover and insulate exterior pipes and faucets to keep them from freezing and bursting. You can also cover your pipes with towels, duct tape or another adhesive strip.
The City will continue to provide weather updates, additional city preparations, and other changes to city services through our website and social media outlets.
