May 2020 Election information for the City of Clear Lake Shores

MAY 2020 ELECTION INFORMATION FOR THE CITY OF CLEAR LAKE SHORES (1)

The next General Election will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020. On this day, our voters will elect three council members for the City of Clear Lake Shores. There will also be a Special Election to re-authorize a one-fourth of one percent (1/4%) sales and use tax according to Chapter 327.007 of the Texas Tax Code to continue to provide revenue for the maintenance and repair of municipal streets.

FILING FOR A PLACE ON THE BALLOT

The dates to file for a place on the General Election ballot are from January 15, 2020 to February 14, 2020.  You can file the application in person or by mail at 1006 South Shore Drive. Clear Lake Shores. Texas 77565

EARLY VOTING

Early voting will begin on Monday, April 20, 2020 and will continue through Tuesday, April 28, 2020.  It will be held at City Hall, located at 1006 South Shore Drive, Clear Lake Shores, Texas 77565.  

The hours designated for early voting are as follows:

  • Monday, April 20, 2020 through Friday, April 24, 2020: From 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Monday, April 27, 2020 and Tuesday, April 28, 2020: From 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

ELECTION DAY - MAY 2, 2020

Election day voting will be held at the Clear Lake Shores Club House located at 931 Cedar Road Clear Lake Shores, TX 77565, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

REGISTER TO VOTE!

Don't miss this opportunity to be involved in YOUR local election. To vote in Texas, you must be registered. Simply pick up a voter registration application, fill it out, and mail it at least 30 days before the election date. The last day to register to vote is Thursday, April 2, 2020. 

To be eligible to register in Texas, you must:

  • be a U.S. citizen;
  • be a resident of the county;
  • be 18 years old (you may register at 17 years and 10 months);
  • not a convicted felon (unless a person's sentence is completed, including any probation or parole)
  • not declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law

ELECTION WORKERS NEEDED

We would like to invite our local residents to become a key component in the Election process by becoming an Election Judge or Election Clerk. This is a paid position and breakfast and lunch will be provided. Packets can be picked up at City Hall during regular office hours.

Requirements

You will need to be present at the polling location from approximately 6:45 a.m. through 7:30 p.m. on May 2, 2020 - Election Day. You will be required to attend a 4-hour training course which can be taken in the evening or during the day at the County Building in Galveston, Texas. The training schedule has not been provided to us but there are several opportunities to attend the course.

Qualifications

Must be a qualified voter in the City of Clear Lake Shores.
