As Hurricane Beryl continues to move inland, the area is being impacted by stronger winds than were forecast. To better protect the City and our residents, Mayor Randy Chronister has issued a Declaration of Disaster as prescribed by Chapter 418 or the Texas Government Code.
The declaration shall continue for a period of not more than seven days unless continued or renewed by the City Council of Clear Lake Shores. To help prevent further damage from water intrusion into residents’ homes and businesses by vehicles driving onto inundated roadways, Clear Lake Shores Police Department will be controlling entry onto the island until the water has receded. Once the storm passes, we will be assessing damage and begin clearing roadways and drainage channels.
CenterPoint is reporting more than one million customers without power. Due to the volume of downed lines and outages, they are currently unable to predict repair times. The City will post updates as we become aware. We stress to all residents to avoid downed power lines and notify CenterPoint immediately if there are downed lines in your area.
